Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit... and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: "Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word." (CCC 1213)
St. John XXIII is happy to welcome people of all ages into our Catholic family through the first Sacrament of Initiation, the beautiful Sacrament of Baptism!
When are the Baptism Masses, and how much do they cost?
Baptisms are done in English and Spanish every 3rd Saturday of the month in Fontana or in Rialto. (Please note the date can change in any month.) The English Baptism is at 9:00 a.m., and the Spanish Baptism is at 10:30 a.m. There is no fee for a Baptism or Class. Please note there are no Baptisms during Lent or in the month of May due to the First Communion Masses.

For Private Baptisms, there is a fee of $250.00 ( $300.00 for Non-Parishoners ) for one child and an additional $50 for each additional child. More information about Private Baptisms can be given by calling the parish office.
What are the requirements for Baptism?
The parents must be registered parishioners in our parish for at least two months prior to signing up for a Baptism. If the parents are not registered parishioners and do not live within the parish boundaries, the parents must get a letter of permission from the nearest parish in order to baptize a child at our parish. If the parents of the child are not married in the Roman Catholic Church, they can still have their child baptized.
Godparents, if married, MUST be married in the Roman Catholic Church. If the godparents are single and are not a couple, then they MUST have received their Confirmation. After all requirements are met, both godparents and parents must take a pre-baptismal class. Sign-ups for the pre-baptismal classes are made with the Parish Secretary: Mayra Tranquilino at the Fontana Center. Please contact her at (909) 822-4732. Godparents and parents must be registered for the class at least one month prior to the Baptism date.
What documents are required?
1. Birth certificate of the child
2. Marriage certificate of the parents (if married through the Church)
3. Marriage certificate of the godparents (if godparents are married, must be married in the Roman Catholic Church )
4. Confirmation certificates of the godparents (if godparents are single and not living together)
5. Certificate of Baptismal class for both godparents and parents (if the class was taken at a different parish)
All required documentation must be turned in to the parish office at least three weeks prior to the Baptism date.
What if my child is over age 6? What about teenagers or adults who want to be baptized?
This information is for the baptism of a baby or child up to the age of 6 years. A child age 6 1/2 must enter the OCIA program to prepare for all three Sacraments of Initiation together: Baptism, First Communion, and Confirmation. Teenagers and adults who would like to be baptized will also prepare for the three Sacraments of Initiation together in the OCIA program.
Our parish offers OCIA for adults and for children. Please see the "Confirmation & OCIA" section on this page or contact Mayra for more information.
